Free APA Reporting & Statistical Code Templates

Knowing how to run an analysis is only half the job. You also need to report it correctly, and to be able to run it again tomorrow. These free templates give you both: fill-in-the-blank APA 7 results statements and tables, plus clean, commented code for the analyses students and researchers run most often.

Every template was written by a statistics professor and reflects current APA 7 reporting conventions.

What’s Included

APA 7 Results Templates

Fill-in-the-blank wording and table shells for:

  • Descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations, frequencies)
  • Independent-samples and paired-samples t-tests
  • One-way, factorial and repeated-measures ANOVA with post-hoc tests
  • Pearson and Spearman correlations (correlation matrix table)
  • Multiple, hierarchical and logistic regression tables
  • Chi-square tests of independence
  • Reliability (Cronbach’s alpha) and factor analysis summaries
  • SEM and CFA fit-index tables

Example template: independent-samples t-test

An independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare [outcome] between [group 1] and [group 2]. Participants in [group 1] (M = [mean], SD = [SD]) scored significantly [higher/lower] than those in [group 2] (M = [mean], SD = [SD]), t([df]) = [t value], p = [p value], d = [effect size], 95% CI [[lower], [upper]].

Code and Syntax Templates

Commented, ready-to-adapt scripts for each analysis above, available for:

  • SPSS syntax (.sps)
  • R scripts (.R) and Quarto report templates (.qmd)
  • Stata do-files (.do)
  • Python Jupyter notebooks (.ipynb)
  • Excel workbooks with worked examples (.xlsx)

Each script follows the same structure: load data → screen and clean → check assumptions → run the analysis → compute effect sizes → export APA-ready output.

APA 7 Formatting Essentials

  • Italicize statistical symbols: M, SD, t, F, r, p, N, n
  • Report exact p-values to two or three decimals (p = .032); use p < .001 for very small values
  • Omit the leading zero for values that cannot exceed 1 (p = .04, r = .31), but include it for values that can (d = 0.45)
  • Report degrees of freedom in parentheses: t(58), F(2, 87), χ²(1, N = 120)
  • Always pair significance tests with effect sizes and confidence intervals

How to Use These Templates Responsibly

Templates show you the structure of good reporting; the interpretation must be yours. Replace every placeholder with your own results, adapt the wording to your research question and follow your institution’s and journal’s specific guidelines. See the Academic Integrity Policy.
